It all started on a sunny day in California while on vacation in July 2007. After three weeks traveling from Los Angeles to San Francisco to Lake Tahoe to Yosemite and Sequoia National Park to Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon to Phoenix and to San Diego, we arrived in Anaheim, Southern California for one week relaxation.
In my life I always had the idea that I came to this world to accomplish 3 things : 1. Going and living in the United States, 2. Marrying the most wonderful woman in the world and 3. Becoming very wealthy. The first and second assignment I passed but for years I have been thinking how to accomplish my third and final assignment, so I was thinking "If I collect one million dollar all in one dollar bills, how much space would I need ?" And how would I do it ? First I thought about making a site that list all sites who are willing to send me one dollar by mail and in return I would list their site. If I could list one site per minute, and I quit my job as an electrical engineer so I can do this full time I would have needed 8 years to become a dollar millionaire. So this was not a good idea.
And I remembered a quote from a top sales man in Belgium who once told me "Whether you sell an expensive item or you sell a cheap item, you need the same effort, in both cases, your customers need to see the benefits". So instead of asking one million dollar from one million different customers, why not ask one million dollar from one customer, so the idea started growing, if I ask one million dollar for a listing I can guarantee an exclusive listing, and people will visit the site out of curiosity, they want to know who is willing to pay one million dollar for a site listing, and if the site owner offers that visitor a chance to become a dollar millionaire, then we have a winner ! Now I still needed a name, the domains "one million" and "one million dollar" were taken, and "one million dollar websites" was too long so finally "One Million Dollar Sites" was born.
Besides my personal goal to pass my third assignment in life I am also doing this for my wife who often complaints when coming home from work saying "I wish I win the lotto" so I don't have to work anymore, I want her to enjoy the life of the wealthy as well. And also for my mother who has cancer, the doctors told us "it is a matter of months, not years", I want to show her that I accomplished everything in life before she will leave us.

After my vacation in California I immediately ordered the domain name for 10 years, I want the site to be online for at least 10 years, but my goal is to keep the site online for many decades.

You can choose between a standard listing and a VIP listing. If you choose for a standard listing you'll get a listing on the site for 10 years. Your place in the listing depends on the time you order, if you are the first who orders, your listing will be the first after the VIP listings, if you are the tenth who orders, your listing will be the tenth after the VIP listings.
If you choose for a VIP listing you'll get a listing on the site for 1 year, your listing always comes ahead of the standard listings and the title of your listing will be bigger. No, there are 2 reasons, first of all "One Million Dollar Sites" has a better ring to it than "One Million Euro Sites" and secondly one million dollar is much cheaper than one million euro. Today, August 16, 2007, one million euro is worth about 1,340,892.22 USD.

What is expensive ? If you want something exclusive, you got to pay for it, if I would ask 1000 dollar for a listing, too many people would order and the listing would not be exclusive anymore.
If you lower the price of a Porsche by 50 %, more and more people could afford one and the car would become a middle class car. By setting the price high, Porsche remains exclusive for the happy few. With this site I have the same intentions, to be exclusive for the happy few, and by setting the price high, more people will visit the site because of the exclusive listing.
